The First Steps of the Kyokushin Journey
This past week I celebrated one year of Kyokushin Karate training at Contact Kicks in Toronto, and what a year it has been. When I entered the dojo last year I was still married, working in a career I didn’t like, smoking, and not at my optimal health. My how things change.

Kata vs Kumite
Last night’s class at Contact Kicks concentrated on kata, with the class divided by kyu levels. It made me a happy camper, as kata practice is one of my most loved components of Karate, along with application, or bunkai.
Know Your Kyokushin Kihon
I returned to class last night after being off for a week with the flu. It felt good being active again, but it’s incredible how quickly we lose gains when away. After only one week I could already feel a decrease in stamina, strength, etc.
